KASHAN RUGS

A Kashan rug is a type of Persian rug from the area of Kashan. Kashan is a city in North Central Iran, along the west edge of the Dasht-e Kavir desert. Kashan rugs are one of the finest looking rugs in IRAN and the world and are of exceptional quality. Kashan rugs and are made from good quality wool, often using kurk wool. Kashan rugs have soft wool and a thin, tight pile. The foundation of the rug is cotton, except in very fine pieces where it is pure silk. Perhaps the most notable element to Kashan rugs is its design. Kashan rugs are offered in many patterns, the most commonly found is the medallion.

 

  Design elements which are used include palmettes, and sometimes islimis. Palmettes are basically a stylized flower, usually circular in shape while Islimis is a design having a spiraled vine which has small blooming flowers stemming from the main vine. Other patterns include Persian floral motifs with flower-stems, rosettes, blossom and leaf motifs, forming one of the densest patterns. Kashan rugs are best suited for traditional and classical decors. Other designs may include symbols, graphics and vase or hunting designs. Kashan rugs are available with colors of different background, commonest being the navy, dark red and creamy white color. Kashan rugs are made using Persian knots. The quality of the carpet depends upon the number of knots, which varies, but averages from around 120 KPSI up to 842 KPSI. Kashan rugs are among the finest quality rugs. The cost of these rugs is almost $4-$25 Per Square Foot (PSF). Always keep in mind that, as a rule, the higher the KPSI, the greater is the price. So always check for this whenever buying a rug and paying a price for it.
